Active Metabolism Reduces Weight
Metabolism refers to the chemical process concerned with the burning of calories. In general, metabolism is vibrant when you are in the prime of your life and starts slowing down as you enter the thirties. Beyond forty it can be sluggish. It is also more active in men than in women. This is also true when both men and women are in the resting state. The reason for this is probably because men have more muscle compared to women. It is a known fact that muscle burns more calories.
1. Get more muscle
When somebody possesses more muscle, the metabolism would be more active and more calories can be burnt. While it is true that women have more fat, it cannot be denied that some muscle is also present in women. If you cannot build more muscles, you can at least try to strengthen the existing muscles.
2. Increase physical activity
Intense aerobic exercises are good for health. Aerobic exercises tone up your respiratory and cardiac systems. This provides better blood supply and oxygen needed for better metabolism.
3. Metabolism needs water
Active metabolism needs water. That is precisely why doctors recommend drinking of eight cups of water every day. Ideally, water should be consumed before a meal as this has been shown to reduce body weight. It is even better to drink cold water. Studies have shown that use of cold water for drinking produces a slight increase in the metabolic rate.
4. Increase the protein content of your diet
It is seen that the digestion of proteins consumes more energy compared to the digestion of fats and carbohydrates. Thus, a high protein diet may help burn more calories.
5. Drink coffee and tea
Everybody knows the advantages of starting a day with a cup of coffee. Coffee stimulates the central nervous system and also increases an individual’s alertness levels. Coffee also boosts the metabolic rates. Ideally, coffee should be consumed without milk and sugar. Drinking tea, particularly green tea, also increases the metabolic rate.

Keep on brisk walking daily in the morning for about a kilometer or more and your metabolism will be ok..
My metabolism definitely slowed down when I stopped smoking, I had no energy and being 40 at the time I stopped probably made it worse. But stopping smoking was one of the best things I have ever done. I walk a lot now and try to eat well and feel my metabolism is better now :)

Your metabolism will operate based on your activity. It automatically adjusts unless you have an underlying disease.
So why would one want to boost it? There is absolutely no reason to.
Boosting your metabolism has ZERO bearing on the equation. Health doesn't come from short cuts.
If you want to lose weight the correct way to do it is to eat a diet which contains the correct nutrients and caloric intake for the activities you regularly participate in.
